Barnham Broom, Saint Peter and Saint Paul Church

Barnham Broom, Saint Peter and Saint Paul Church, NR9-4DB.

Barnham Broom, Saint Peter and Saint Paul Church, Barnham Broom, Beorn's homestead. Olde English + ham, (homestead) Broom or Broom, Brom. Place where Broome is abundant. Olde English brom, (Broom). Immediately in love with this church (what a beautiful door knob) Locked and closed when I went there, but will gladly go back. Its very hard to get Mega Tags and Key Words on to a page that you go to without using someone elses words. Barnham Broom, Saint Peter and Saint Paul Church is said by Cautley as having a west tower, south porch nave and chancel, the 15th century tower has Evangelist as pinnacles, the font, he said was not old, its a unique shape. There is a plain arch-braced roof with no collar, and large piscina shields going all the way round in simple mould. The church has Hanoverian Arms and a 14th century ark type chest, The rood screen head is still there, though strangely enough no base.Near Wymondham, with its square west tower, 5 bells, nave, chancel and south porch, Barnham Broom church was closed, mainly Perpendicular work with earlier styles incorporated. There are four figures in stone of the Evangelists in the place of pinnacles on the tower, similar to those of Horning. There is a large piscina with opening at the side in the chancel. There is a memorial to the Ganning family, the screen is beautifully carved. Barnham Broom has a screen that has the following interesting series of figures, after three blank panels SS. Clement with his anchor, Walstan with his two oxen, a defaced bishop, an aged king, perhaps Edward the Confessor, Etheldreda as a crowned abbess, Edmund with three arrows, Withburga, a deer leaping up to her, Dorothy, and Elizabeth of Thuringia with cup and loaves.
