Beighton All Saints Church NR13 3JZ

Beighton All Saints Church, square west tower, , 1 bell, nave, with aisles, chancel and south porch. The style is mainly Decorated, but there has been a number of restorations including a new top to the tower, with figures in the place of four pinnacles. The nave roof is thatched. The starcase turret has an external doorway. There are three canopied sedilia in the chancel, (Ist Image) The font is late Norman, there is also an old chest. Beighton All Saints Church, west tower, south porch, nave, north and south aisles and chancel. The single framed scissor nave roof is thatched, with battens to tie the thatch to, and the thatch is cow-mouthed over the clerestoy windows. Typical 13th century font with shallow arcading, and a very much restored screen of the vaulted type, of which I can only be sure the middle rail is original. This has a delicately traceried trail. The most interesting thing in this church, is the beautiful early 17th century yew chest, which depicts on the lid the story of Susannah and the Elders, and on the front contemporary figures. The scene are slightly sunk and the rest poker-work This is a very similar one to that at Rushbrooke, Suffolk.
