Burnham Deepdale Saint Mary's Church.

Burnham Deepdale Saint Mary's Church. A round towered church that I looked at every day in a previous job, but alas had never had the fortune of entering. What a treat I was in for, I will definitely return, it has a beautiful square font, standing on five legs, once damaged in a removal, this is carved with what can be described as a life in a man's life. It has Drinking from a horn, feet by the fire, digging, pruning, rogation tide banner, weeding, mowing, binding a sheaf, threshing, grinding corn, pig killing and feasting together. All of which I have done, except kill a pig. Saint Mary's has a round tower, definitely Saxon, around 950 years old, though slightly different as this one is thicker at its base by some 6 inches, this then thins to something more slender as we see today, the top capped with a flat roof.  The bell supplied by a founder from King's Lynn, M. Derby of the 14th century, west tower, south porch, nave, north aisle and chancel. Pre-Conquest tower with a V shaped opening high up, modern roof and fittings, 14th century arcade, late 12th century north doorway and fragments of 15th century glass. The feature of this church is the Norman font. It has a group of 12 Panels representing the seasons, six of them marked in capitals for the months. January a seated man with drinking horn, February a seated man warming himself, March a man digging with a spade, April a man pruning, May a man with banner "beating the bounds",  June a man weeding, July a man with a scythe, August a man binding a sheaf, September a man with flail threshing, October grinding corn in a quern, November a man slaughtering a pig, December merry making at Christmas. The fourth side is occupied with conventional designs and the whole has a frieze of lions and foliage, to find, use the coast road, churchesofnorfolk by the Old Boi
