Cantley Saint Margaret Church, near Reedham, square west tower, 1 bell, nave with transept, and chancel. The work is mainly Perpendicular with some Norman work incorporated, including a font of that period. There are piscina in the chancel and transept, the latter having been the Lady Chapel. There are memorials to the Shanke, Layton and Leedes families. Also others including: Gilbert. and E.R. Browne, DSC, skipper, R.N.E. H.M.S. Chromorna, aged just 33, the latter being a Commonwealth War Memorial. Ancestor links to Cockerill.
Cantley Saint Margaret Church has good 15th century windows in the nave, also a Stuart table. William de Bergh: described in a fine dated 1342 as parson of the church of Birlyngham. He was rector of Cantley 1350-1372. In 1349, he was named as one of the recipients of an annuity settled by Edmund de Thorpe of Ashweellthorpe. He was trustee of Caston Hall manor and of Beaufoe's manor in Creake. In 1360, he with others gave 140 acres in Reedham and Moulton Saint Mary to the prior of Norwich. His business activities were widespread: in 1356, he purchased the adowson of Southbergh, and presented to that benefice and to Bircham Newton and Bickerston in 1361.
