Cockthorpe All Saint's Church.

In a very small village of about 552 acres. Cockthorpe All Saints Church has stood on this site for nearly 1000 years. Previously recorded as Cockthorp, it may also have been called Saint Andrew, but like most churches the Patron of a church could change names at any time, and still can! it includes an octagonal font, 15th century Norwich glass and a chancel that has been shortened, this probably in the 17th century. It also has blocked openings in the walls. Look at the pews and see a date 1649 and W.S. carved ornately onto it. The church has not one, but two Victorian harmoniums. This small church, now in the care of the Norfolk Churches Trust, and dates from the medieval era. There is some dispute as to the dates which can be attributed to its architecture, it is agreed that both the rustic arch braced roof and the clerestory were built in the 15th century (when the church underwent a major restoration). Inside a Saint Christopher wall painting was discovered in 1988. Only one stained glass window remains in the church. This portrays a delightful 15th century feathered angel playing a stringed instrument (probably a violin) with a bow. West tower, south porch, nave, south aisle and chancel. This church is curious, because it has no windows on the north side. It has though three clerestory windows over the south aisle. Late 15th century arch-braced roof with arch brace between wall posts and good cornice of quarterfoils. Simple 15th century font with Trinity emblem and a few simple bench ends, one dated 1647.
