Sheresford, 500 hundred years ago all our churches were Roman Catholic. In the time of Henry VIII and the following century, the period known as the Reformation,  gave way to a time that the churches had their Roman Catholic spirituality systematically stripped away, this included the destruction of stained glass, rood screens with ornate paintings, pew ends, decorated fonts etc. Colkirk Saint Mary's Church. was one such place, but for a different cause. It used to house a Victorian stained glass window on its south wall, this was fragmented by a Second World War bomb blast. Near Fakenham, Colkirk Saint Mary's Church has, large square tower, 5 bells, on the south side of the nave and forming the south porch, nave with north aisle added in 1872, and chancel. the tower is 14th century Decorated, the nave and chancel Perpendicular. There are some curious monuments to the Timporley family, 1660, and tablets to the Borker and Martin families.
