Dereham, Saint Nicholas Church. With its font dated around 1468, with it's "Seven Sacrament" one with the signs of baptism, Holy Communion, etc; carved on the side. The Eighth side shows the crucifixion, some traces of Medieval paint work can be seen. The church has its Eagle lectern, made in Liege and dating from around 1475. Though lecterns are found in all or most churches, lecterns of this date are very rare. The church has a Lantern Tower, this houses a Sanctus bell which was first mentioned in 1553. The separate bell tower houses 8 bells, which are rung regularly for services. The oldest was cast in 1753. the church still has a screen. This is in the south transept, was made in 1488 and originally stood in Oxborough church. There is a lady chapel. And a later reredos behind the alter dating 1857 and painted as late as 1929. Dereham East, Saint Nicholas Church, a nave with aisles, central lantern tower with north  and south transepts, with eastern chapels, chancel and south porch. There is a large square tower, detached and standing in the churchyard to the south-east containing 8 bells. There are at least five distinct periods of architecture. The Norman remains consist of two shafts in the chancel arch. The chancel is Early English, about 1250. The north aisle and lantern tower are Decorated and the transepts Transitional: the rest of the church is mainly Perpendicular. The detached bell tower was commenced about 1506 and is consequently Tudor. There is an Easter Sepulchre. A Seven Sacrament font. The tomb of the poet Cowper is in the north transept, sculptured by Flaxman, R.A. of London dated 1800 who also has one in Ketteringham church. There is also another to Elizabeth Clarke, by sculptor J. Watson. 1793 and two more to both Richard Pillans 1797 and John Woodbine 1787 by John Blackburn.  . There is an old chest preserved in the church. Saint Withburga's Well is to the west of the church. Most of the fine brasses have gone.
