Dersingham Saint Nicholas Church, Dersingham, "Deorsige" + "Ingaham, the homestead of Deorsige's people! Map at the bottom. Dersingham Saint George church has been but using carrstone, one material that is plentiful in this part of Norfolk. Inside the church is a beautifully decorated monument chest. The front, church chest and gilded rood screen, along with the sedilia and piscina, are all Medieval. The are considered special. Dersingham Saint Nicholas Church originally a rectory, was a gift of Peter de Valognes, who came over with the Conqueror William.

The present church was built on the site of a Norman church. Whether an Anglo-Saxon church preceded the Norman church on this site is open to conjecture, but it is known that in the 7th Century Saint Felix introduced Christianity to this area via Babingley and Shernborne.
Saint Felix may also have visited Dersingham. Close to Royal Sandringham. Messent wrote, Dersingham Saint Nicholas Church, square west tower, a clock and 6 bells, nave with aisles, chancel and south porch. The chancel is Decorated but the rest Perpendicular. The ancient rood screen remains with paintings. There is an altar tomb to Pell family, 1607, and other tablets to that family and the Kerricks. There is a fine oak chest. the font and cover are of interest. Cautley wrote: west tower, south porch, nave, north and south aisles and chancel, another to Elizabeth Pell, by Robert Page 1732 and another to Margaret Hodgson 1743 by sculptor F. Stafford. This large church has 14th century arcades with octagonal piers having concave faces, worked out under cap with trefoils and six large three-light clerestory windows. Font, 14th century with plain traceried bowl a squint from south aisle and in this aisle a piscina with cinquefoiled ogee arch, terminating in a traceried panel. The 15th century screen is coloured (top restored) and there are left six painted panels of Saints, very defaced, but one looks like B.V.M. There is a poor man's box and in the chancel is a good 14th century sedilia and piscina with columns and cinquefoiled arches under a square label, a finely traceried low-side window, and a black marble monument dated 1607 with incised portraits of John Pell and wife. One feature of this church is the 14th century chest.
