Central Diss, Disabled parking spaces to the front if you can get there. Diss Saint Mary's Church has a square tower, clock and 8 bells, nave with aisles, chancel and both north and south porches. Both tower and the nave are Decorated, the rest of the church Perpendicular, the clerestory being early 16th century, Tudor. The chancel was restored to its original height in 1857. Members of the Fitzwalter family were founders of this church. There are several fragments of ancient stained glass in a north aisle window, and several others contain 19th century glass in memory of local persons of note. Many of the internal fittings are modern, but well designed. There is an altar tomb to William Barton in the north aisle and some mural tablets to local families. Diss Saint Mary's Church west tower, north and south porches, nave, north and south aisles. The early 14th century tower has precessional arches north and south. the tower being built right up to the street. The south porch is flush panelled and has grotesques on set-offs to buttresses, nice canopied niche in east buttress and the north parapet has blank tracery. Above the north porch is a parvise. The 15th century west doors are beautifully traceried and on the inside the panels below the tracery are stooled for figures and there are little figures in tracery. 14th century arcades with ten three light clerestory windows, arch-braced cambered tie-beam roof, Stuart table, fragments of 15th century glass in north windows and a commandment board with figures of Moses and Aaron. There is also a Sanctus bell at east end of nave.
The organ is built of constructed by Norman & Beard Ltd of London.
