East Wretham Saint Ethelbert Church

What a nice church, on getting to East Wretham Saint Ethelbert Church and parking in its gravel purpose made car park. I realised that there wasn't really sufficient access for people like me, i walked across gravestones and grass! I took a few photographs and went inside the main porch to find the front doors closed. I about turned, and went out again. I then notice a sign on the front porch with two numbers. The first was answered very punctually and a lady stated that either she or her husband would let me in. I was expecting maybe a neighbour, but no, a little while later a gentleman came via car. What a nice gesture! He then went on to show me almost everywhere in the church. I was in deed in awe. What a beautiful church! From its left alone pews that it seems had been there centuries and certainly offered a seat to sit on for a wary traveler like me! I strolled about, snapping away, but listening intently as the gentleman spoke of a Rev JP Whalley, Polish Airmen, and the way the organ and font casings were painted and restored. How it took two men to raise the font cover. And what a beauty that was! based on a larger, if that was possible, of a similar one at Saint. Mary, Elsing near Dereham. The restoration of that by the then Rector of Welbourne, The Rev. J. Barham Johnson. I will definitely return.
