Field Dalling Saint Andrew's Church, near Holt, square west tower, 5 bells, nave with north aisle, chancel and south porch. The style is mainly Decorated, but the windows of the nave are Perpendicular. Rood stairs remain. There is a crypt under the tower. A mural painting of Saint Christopher has been discovered. There is some ancient stained glass, as well as much of of 19th century date. Supposed to have been done early February 2018. May and still closed. Mortlock speaks of this church as: A handsome church, the outside beautifully cared for, the fine 14th century Decorated tower, boasts an excellent bell opening with tracery, it was re-fitted as late as 1977. The Queen's Silver Jubilee year. There inside are ornate main beam intersection, carved with Tudor flowers, Earlier this century, Charles Cox wrote that a piece of rood screen was blocking up the rood stair. Mortlock said later it was not, a small door was added. The church has a 15th century octagonal font, this carved with the "Instruments of Passion", there is a funny shaped piscina, with ornate, almost Arabian style arch. The blocked in priest's door looks Tudor, there are 18th century box pews too. Note the corbels on leaving, carved with shields showing the Cross of Christ on one side. and that of Saint Andrew, as an X on the other. Field Dalling, Saint Andrew Church, 14th century tower, south porch, nave, north aisle and chancel. The tower is out of alignment with the axis of the nave. 15th century arcade with slender columns and continuous mouldings, and arch-bracedroof with brattished cornice and tudor flowers at intersection of purlins. The north aisle roof is arch-braced with good traceried spandrils. The 14th century chancel has a modern roof and a blocked up arch to the north, probably leading to a chantry chapel. Some of the windows have good 15th century glass, with labelled and inscribed saints. Nice 15th century font with emblems of the Passion. Box pews in north aisle and a few simple benches in nave and Hanovarian Arms.
There are Apostles in the tracery lights and possible wall paintings. There is a stump near the gate outside of the ancient preaching cross.
