Freethorpe All Saints Church, west tower, south porch, nave, north aisle and chancel, the round tower is probably Norman. Everything looks like a drastic restoration, words written by Cautley, resent improvements include an outside toilet. Not really disability friendly, as one has to walk across a grass churchyard to get to it. near Acle, Freethorpe All Saints Church, has a round tower, complete with conical roof, 1 bell, nave, with north aisle, chancel and south porch. The tower is Norman, but the rest is mainly Early English with several lancet windows. There are several tablets to the Walpole family including one with a bust to Edmund Wapole, who died 1844, there is even a room built off the chancel complete with a fire. Only one of two I have seen in a Norfolk church. (We are usually hard here) There are also Monuments to The Bowes-Lyon family. Freethorpe contained a few people inside when I entered, one recognised me from a previous church crawl and said "hello Old Boi" it took me back, but I did after he pointed out who he was remembered him. The church itself with many adaptions by the Walpoles, is well worth a visit. It is dim and trim within, there is a beautiful linen fold panelling on the sanctuary walls, the oak altar has traceried panels and a border of vine, and the reredos has tracery under a canopy. The tiny squire's pew  on the north side of the chancel was added last century, a Walpole piece of restoration. They also gave the village a pump-house.
