Gooderstone Saint George Church.

The church of Saint George at Gooderstone has been lucky enough to retain much of its medieval atmosphere, both outside with its Decorated tracery and inside with its medieval benches and rood screen. The Lord of the Manor, Aymer de Valence, Earl of Pembroke, was killed in a tournament on his wedding day in 1343. His bride, Lady Mary de St Paul, gave the rectory and patronage to the nuns at Denny Abbey to ensure prayers were said for her deceased husband, and later she arranged the building of the south aisle.
Saint George at Gooderstone, The Tower, with its very thick walls and no buttresses, was perhaps started in late Norman or Early English times. There is still a Norman window on the south side, though this may have been inserted to accommodate the later stair turret rising to silence chamber below the bells, which was added at the south-east corner. The porch and aisle were added in the 14th century. The nave has a prominent Mass Dial, a circle carved in the stone with a central gnomon to cast a shadow on one of the marked rays to indicate the time of the service. The chancel, built in the 12th century. west tower, south porch, nave, south aisle and chancel. This most interesting church has a 14th century porch with circular windows filled with tracery, a 14th tower with no buttresses and a low-side window on south blocked up. The inside is impressive with great 15th century transomed windows to north of nave, a 14th century arcade and most beautiful benches fill the church. The benches are 15th century, poppy-headed with arm rests and remains of mutilated grotesques and best of all lovely traceried and pierced backs with brattishing on the rail, a plain poor man's box and two-decker Jacobean pulpit"200 yards from Gooderstone Water Gardens on left, this place is open almost every day of the year!" https://www.gooderstonewatergardens.co.uk/
