Great Ryburgh Saint Andrew's Church, Saxon in origin, Ryburgh once had two churches, the other a stones throw away on the way to Snoring is now a ruin, this one at Great Ryburgh, is far different. With is round tower that dates from the early 11th century, The walls built around the same time as the country was then starting its Battle of Hastings invasion in 1066! The church only 10/20 feet from the road, is now being stored again, inside its rood screens elaborately painted to house a WW collection and has symbols showing the 1914-1918 significance, its collections found around the county and its stories of villagers lives. It has a brass lectern standing proudly and a beautiful font with elaborate cover. Reminiscent of Bexwell church with its Octagonal belfry, this one added in the 14th century with its dressed stone on its corners! It has six bells, being there since 1891. Great Ryburgh Saint Andrew's Church, Round west tower with octagonal top, 6 bells, nave, north and south transepts, chancel and south porch. The base of the tower is Saxon-Norman, but early English above. The rest of the church is early Perpendicular, with some early work incorporated. The chancel has piscina on both the north and south sides, and there is another with an aumbry in the south transept. The open timber roofs have been restored.
