Griston, Saint Peter and Saint Paul Church.

Griston, Saint Peter and Saint Paul Church, near Watton, square west tower, 5 bells, clock, nave, chancel and north porch. It is said to have been rebuilt in 1477. The style is Perpendicular, except for part of the chancel, which appears to be earlier. An inscription on the font appears to indicate that part of the tower was rebuilt in 1568. There is a three-decker pulpit with sounding board. The choir stalls have been made from old benches from the nave. There is an old carved oak rood screen, and slight fragments of stained glass. Griston, Saint Peter and Saint Paul Church, west tower, nave, north porch and chancel. The 14th century tower has a good base course with stone and flint panels carved with crossed keys and swords. Externally there is a Sanctus bell turret over east end of nave. Inside the roofs are modern. The font is a very plain 14th century bowl, with inscribed at a later date, "1568 was this steple tope newe set up to the great cost of landed man" It probably refers to the tower. Old communion rails are under the tower arch. Simple but nice square-headed 15th century screen and very good Stuart pulpit with back board and canopy. In the chancel are some simple bench ends, dropped window seat sedilia, a Sturat table and the old stone mensa with Consecration Crosses, is in the floor on north side of the altar. There is little set of Royal Arms with no recognisable quarterings, but put up in Hanoverian times.
