Hardwick Saint Margaret Church, west tower, round and in ruins, falling in 1770, south porch, nave and chancel. Late 12th century south door with engaged column and billeted equilateral arch over. There is a continuous arch braced roof over nave and chancel, arch-braced between wall-posts, and a wall painting of Saint Christopher opposite the south door, this was supposed to be for patrons of the church to say thanks for their journey to and from the site. Plain 15th century font and a 17th tester pew now erected in south west corner and used as a vestry. Interesting rood loft stairs built in sill of window, and what was a good 15th century coloured and vaultered screen with double filagree tracery in heads and a few lower jambs left diapered. The whole is very mutilated and a head was put in 1611, by John Ebbs and Joseph Cock, churchwardens. Dropped window sill sedilia and angle piscina and 16th century iron-banded chest. Hardwick Saint Margaret Church there was a local doing work to an outside wall, I could have spent all day chatting, he was a very approach able person. near Harleston, there is 1 bell, the tower is Norman, the rest mainly Decorated. The front of the porch has a chessboard pattern. There are two fine altar tombs, one to Sir Peter Gleane, Bart., died 1694. The other tomb is to Thomas Gleane, esq., eldest son of above. The ancient carved font is of interest, and there is some old woodwork. The rood stairs remain.
