Harleston Saint John the Baptist Church, west bell cot, 1 bell, nave with aisles, transepts and apsidal chancel. This church was built in 1872, to replace a small parochial chapel of the same dedication. Mr R.M. Phipson of Norwich was the architect. the style is a copy of the Decorated. The site was given by W.M. Hazard, Esq. There are some stained glass windows in memory of him. Pevsner wrote: nave and aisle, chancel and polygonal apse. No tower, clerestory with circular foiled windows. Stained glass signed by W.M.H. and not good. Nickolas Pevsner seemed more concerned with Harleston itself than writing about this, what I thought was a beautiful church. The sun was shining, it had lots of pews and had been dressed inside for the recent Harvest Festival. On getting outside and back to my disability car, noticed someone had written profanities on my back window. It was from a blue van parked behind. It makes you wonder if these people have any brains at all. The organ is built or constructed by Norman & Beard Ltd of London.
