Hemblington All Saints Church NR13 4EF

Hemblington All Saints Church, west tower, south porch, nave and chancel. This rather remote little church has much of interest. The round tower is Norman. Inside is a simple arch-braced roof to nave, and a beautiful font with carved figures on bowl with trinity on west face, coved corona and a panelled shaft with eight figures, amongst others, one with manacles, who must be Saint Leonard, Saint Margaret of Antioch and Saint Lawrence. The figures have very good modern colouring and the font stands on two steps. Very good wall paintings on north wall, a Saint Christopher, and next  to it a lot of scenes, amon which is the martyrdom of Saint Edmund. In the 14th century window in nave is an open staircase giving access to a former rood loft. nice benches with carved moulding round bench end and poppy-heads, and an early 18th century pulpit with back board and canopy. There is no chancel arch, but plain niches on either side. Near Brundall, this round towered church, has 2 bells, nave chancel and south porch. The tower is partly Norman, the rest a mixture of styles. there are memorials to the Heath and Burcham families. there is an ancient piscina in the chancel.
