Hempstead, Saint Andrews Church, having a holiday and going to Hempstead's Saint Andrews, I was disappointed by the non open church, especially with so many Regimental Graves in the graveyard, there were gravestones for The Queen's Regiment, Middlesex Regiment and Royal Norfolk Regiment. Hempstead, Saint Andrews Church, west tower, south porch, nave and chancel. This church is entirely thatched. The 15th century porch had a parvise over it, with a small window on either side of a niche and a nice parapet which is in bad condition. The original south doors are traceried. The nave which is now 26' 6" wide and probably absorbed the old aisles, for two windows flank the tower at west end. a Stuart table, four old bench ends, a piscina in nave which has a recess for the cruets, a 16th century chest and a low side window in chancel on north. Fine square headed screen, the base of which has lost nearly all its tracery, as has the central arch, but retains its interesting painted panels untouched with the names of saints below. Recognisable are George, Erasmus, Stephen, Laurence with his grid, Blase, Fracis, Leonard and Eligius The saint of farriers with his hammer.
