A church with beautiful ornate carving's is Hockering, Saint Michael's Church. So too its windows of the Perpendicular Period. The Rev'd Charles Parkin, who completed Blomefield's History of Norfolk writing in 1775, states that this church had a round tower. There is no architectural evidence for this and what is seen to be here is clearly a flint square west tower built in the late 14th/15th century. If this round tower was to be true, Hockering must have been affluent to replace it as the cost of building a tower was about half the cost of the whole church. This could have been the case though as a storm wiped out several round towers that were built by inferior builder of the time. There is a Mass Dial, and a Green Man along with a ladies head near the priest's door. The west end of the chancel's south wall has a low side window, this probably used by a sexton to ring the Sanctus bell, this so people working in the fields and unable to attend the Mass, could at least cross themselves at the high point of the service at the elevation of the Host. Hockering, Saint Michael Church, west tower, south porch, nave, north aisle and chancel. 15th century tower, 14th century arcade, arch-braced roof to aisle and simple arch-braced roof to nave with no collar. The base of the font is interesting with figures carved around the shaft, among which are saint Margaret, saint Andrew, saint Peter, saint George and Dragon, sain Christopher and the Virgin and child. A few old bench ends with grotesques on arm rests and Hanoverian Arms on front of gallery. Simple Stuart pulpit. The chancel has been drastically restored, and the only things of interest are a low-side window on south and a 13th century sepulcchral slab.
