Hoe Saint Andrew Church

Hoe Saint Andrew Church.

Hoe Saint Andrews Church, near Dereham, I was originally looking for Gressenhall Church, and come across this little gem. On arrival, the church was locked, I rang the key holder, and whilst waiting took a look around the church itself. This church unusual in the fact it has both north and south facing porches. the reason was the road was originally too close to the Squire of the manors Hall nearby, he moved the road, kept his porch and made a new porch for the other parishioners to be used. Messent stated, (Low west Tower) There is now no tower at all that goes above the roof line of the church itself, but is more visible from the inside with its wooden floor, accessible by ladder. nave, and chancel. The style is mainly Decorated. The most restoration, which almost amounted to rebuilding, took place about 1735. Most of the internal fittings are modern, Hoe Saint Andrews Church, west tower, north and south porches, nave and chancel. Much of it has been rebuilt and half the tower has fallen, Very nice 15th century font with cusped coving to bowl and three vertical strips of quatrefoils to shaft. It stands on a base course of four half octagons. Rather a barn like interior with all modern roofs and benches. There is a Stuart table and rails and Hanoverian Arms.
