Holme Hale Saint Andrew, Church.

Near Swaffham, Holme Hale Saint Andrew's Church has a square west tower with buttresses in the lower stages at right angles, and in the last stage an angle buttress set above and angels on hammer-beams, a clock and 6 bells, nave splendid 15th century windows to the south. Also with a north aisle, chancel and north porch. The style is mainly Perpendicular, with some early work incorporated. An early Perpendicular screen divides the nave from the chancel which has a dropped window sill sedilia with an angle piscina, the cusped heads being supported by a reversed Norman pillar. The aisle has a set of benches unique in my experience (Cautley) with square moulded tops and little hollows in the standard with charming carving in the hollows. In this aisle is a curious pillar piscina. There is a south door to tower as well as the nave. All other roofs modern, Sanctus bell window in the central opening. There is a very interesting screen with delightful and intricate tracery in central opening. There is a Stuart pulpit and table measuring 2'6" x 1' 11". There is some ancient glass.
