King's Lynns Saint Margaret's Minster.

Bishop Herbert de Lozinga, the first Bishop of Norwich and founder of Norwich Cathedral, founded this priory in 1100, it was built as a cell to his newly erected monastery at Norwich, endowing it with the tithes and ecclesiastical dues of the whole town of Lynn. And with various lands, churches and revenues in the neighbourhood. The priory was placed on the South side of the conventual church, which is now the parish of Saint Margaret.
It was dedicated to Saint Mary Magdelan, Saint Margaret and All  maiden Saints. There was a (celebration cross) in the churchyard, at which offerings were made. The convert consisted of a prior and three monks, which were the first placed there by Bishop Herbert. In 1448, a prior, cellerer, pittancier and camerius are mentioned. After the dissolution it was valued with Norwich, but in 1534 the spiritualties were returned at £38 14s 4d. there are numerous mentions to this and other references mentioning some remains and archaeological finds in King's Lynn. two square west towers, each 86 feet high, one containing a clock, and 10 bells, nave with aisles, transepts, and central lantern tower up to roof level, and chancel with side chapel aisles. This church was originally monastic as well as parochial, having been part of a priory founded by Bishop Herbert de Lozinga in A.D. 1100. One of the west towers had a spire which fell in 1741, destroying the nave and the top of the lantern tower, so that the nave arcading is now 18th century work. the north west tower is late Norman at the base. All three styles of Gothic appear in this church. there are many memorials, including the two largest Flemish brasses in England: one to Adam de Walsoken, died 1349 (with representation of the ingathering of an orchard) and the other to Robert Braunche, mayor of Lynn (with a representation of the peacock feast he gave to King Edward III ) He died in 1364. Both brasses are of magnificent workmanship. There are some carved misereres in the chancel There is some ancient stained glass.
