Lingwood, Saint Peter's Church,

Lingwood, Saint Peter Church, NR13-4TR.

Lingwood, Saint Peter's Church, with its font, one of the nicest things in the church, it was unusual in the way it was octagonal, as with many, but stood on eight octagonal pedestals. Saint Peter's has been there for some 700 years, in that time the church has gone from Christian to Roman Catholic, to Anglican. The pulpit was renewed. The church has a Mass/ Scratch Dial, Piscina and Sedilia. The church was open, the new toilets block was not. Lingwood, Saint Peter's Church, near Acle, square west tower, 1 bell, nave, chancel and south porch. Mainly in the transitional style, from decorated to Perpendicular. There are mural tablets to the Goddard and Avers families. Lingwood, Saint Peter's Church, west tower, south porch, nave and chanel (no chancel arch). Simple arch-braced roof (no collar), with flowers at intersections of purlins, plain octagonal font and some nice 15th century benches in chancel, with carved moulding round benches and figures and grotesques on arm rests. Good example of Stuart baluster altar rails, dropped window sill sedilia and simple 14th century piscina. George IV Arms cut in wood to outline. The organ is built or constructed by Norman & Beard Ltd of London.
