Little Melton, All Saints Church

Little Melton, All Saints Church, NR9-3NS.

Little Melton All Saints Church, with its medieval wall paintings of a group of women. The horns of three devils, dominated by Titivallus (The Demon Gossip) can be seen in the background as a warning against gossiping, uncovered in 1933 when the church was decorated. With this and this churches painted rood screen and a font and alter top of Purbeck Marble. The church has both a double piscina and stone sedilia. On the porch outside is a Mass or Scratch Dial. Little Melton, All Saints Church, west tower, south porch, nave, north and south aisles and chancel. This church though with modern roofs has several points of interest. It has a number of wall paintings, though alas very faint now. Typical 13th century octagonal font, on eight very short colomns round a central shaft. 14th century arcades and a very nice late 15th century coloured screen. The altar rails, prayer desks and pulpit are made up with 15th century screenwork. Plain arched sedilia and double piscina circa 1300. Stuart table.
