Lyng Saint Margaret's Church.

Lyng Saint Margaret's Church, Tucked away behind the FOX local public house, The Saint Margaret's Church in Lyng was such a gem. From is entrance gate and short path, it on entering its front porch, a door all in splendor with its rose decorated arch carved in wood, Dated some 15th century,  with its beautifully restored doors a memorial to a local farmer Lawrence Brigham, to its knob that is typical of Norfolk. Inside, it has an Early English octagonal font that stands on in all nine pedestals, it is unusual in that it is made of Purbeck marble, it has a wooden font cover that dates from 1936 and is of the Gothic design period. On walking to the chancel area, I noticed seats to my left showing FREE and numbers, this the time when in the 18th century pew rents were charged, I last saw this at Round towered Weybread. Saint Andrew's Church in Suffolk. The chancel itself re-erected on it's old foundations in 1912 at a cost of £500. The pulpit and priest's table are a pair and come with a mythological beast carved onto its corners. Lyng Saint Margaret's Church, near East Dereham square west tower, 5 bells, nave, chancel and south porch. The chancel was rebuilt in 1912. it is considerably out of centre with the nave. To the north of the chancel arch and in the east wall of the nave is a blocked up window. this gives the east end of the church a very lop-sided appearance. The nave is Perpendicular. The font is rather plain but very ancient, probably early 13th century. There is an ancient altar cloth made from 15th century vestments. The nave roof is of the hammer-beam type.
