Morston, All Saints Church, NR25-7AA.

Morston, All Saints Church. Quite a tiny church, but beautiful, it still has its rood screens, much of them surviving, whereas the figures above are damaged. The font, octagonal in shape, stands on a octagonal pedestal and that stands on an octagonal raised base, above is a chandelier. There is a memorial to the Brave Morston Men, the fallen from WW1 and WW2. The tower because of it's shape was built in Norman times, it was struck by lightning in 1743, this was rebuilt. and brick was used. Much of the old tower stone adorns properties in the village. Morston, All Saints Church, west tower, south and north porches, nave, north and south aisles and chancel. Modern roof and benches, 14th arcades with round piers and four little quatrefoil clerestory windows. Good 15th century font, standing on two steps, the top one a Maltese Cross, and the bowl carved with the Evangelistic Emblems and four seated figures. Above chancel arch the whole space id filled in with the Royal Arms 1823 and Commandments, Belief and Lord's Prayer. Good base of 15th century rood screen fully coloured , with paintings of the Evangelists and Latin Doctors. The carving in spandrils is good. Below the Holy Table is a brass to Richard Makynges 1596. The only brass to a Rector of this period in Norfolk. Small Easter Sepulchre and a collecting shoe. Morston has a screen with Evangelists and the Doctors. .
