Norwich Saint Benedicts Church



Norwich Saint Benedicts Church, south side of Saint Benedict's Street, Only a Round Tower survive of this church, the rest destroyed by a bombing raid in August of 1942. Messent wrote: Previously, a round west tower withoctagonal top storey, 2 bells, nave with north aisle, chancel, and north and south porches. The base of the tower is Normanbut 14th century above, the rest of the church being a mixture of all the periods of Gothic, the arcading between the nave and north aisle having four centred arches-Tudor. The font is finely carved but rather mutilated. Cautley wrote: west tower, north and south porches, nave, north aisle and chancel, this church has been bombed and the only thing remaining intact is the circular Norman Tower.
