Repps with Bastwick Saint Peter Church, Repps or Repes, Strips of land in fen that could be tilled, Old English ripel (strip). west tower, south porch, nave and chancel. Round Norman tower with 13th century octagonal upper stage, with double arcading and windows at cardinal points. Modern roofs and benches, and the remains only of a square headed screen. Simple 15th century font and Stuart table. Near Potter Heigham, round west tower with octagonal upper storey, 3 bells, nave, chancel and south porch. The base of the tower is Norman, but Early English above. The rest of the church is mainly Decorated. Part of the rood screen remains. The ancient font is of interest. There are a few brasses and a Bier. The church is kept lovely, the sound was very peaceful and for February when I went, the weather was very mild and sunny. the pulpit bears the keys of Saint Peter, and the church has a lot of older ancient fittings. There is a Holy Water Stoup just inside the door. And outside is a square tile complete with Mass Dial on it. Arthur Mee, in The King's England wrote of his experiences here; Repps-with Bastwick. Repps of the byways has the old church of Saint Peter. Bastwick, on the busy road, has only the square 15th century tower of its deserted church. From Repp's prim chgurch with its ivy-patched walls the chimes tinkle ding-dong bell over the wide fields, reaching the windmills and farms and cottages among the trees. The lovely octagonal belfry was added about 1275 to the round Norman tower, which has still its small original round arch to the nave. Some of the masonary in the base of the tower and in the walls are 14th century, as is the fine font, the churches best possession. The porch has its old roof beams and rafters of about 1500, but of the chancel screen only the framework is old.
