Shelfanger All Saint's Church, one of a small group of churches under the management including Burston, Gissing, Winfathing, Tiveshall. Shelfanger consists of a few houses and some 350 people. The name is supposed to have derived from Scandinavian, or Anglo Saxon, Scelf or Scylf, this and the word Hangra (wood) or Auger (meadow). There was a church recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, and said to have 16 acres. The earliest recorded rector was Eudo in 1272. The church has a font that is thought to have been a gift, possibly a memorial to Adam Bosville, patron of the Living? from 1362-1376. His initials show on the eastern facet. Shelfanger, All Saints Church, near Diss, square west tower with pyramidal roof, 5 bells, nave, chancel and north porch. The style is mainly late decorated and Perpendicular. Much renovated took place in 1866. There are some 19th century stained glass memorial windows. There is also some ancient stained glass in some of the windows. Remains of 14th century rood screen under tower arch, and the Arms of William IV in tower. On the south side of nave at the east end is a nicheover the position once held by the altar, and beside it a dropped window sill sedilia, with a tiny angle piscina beside it, retaining the credence shelf.
