 Sidestrand Saint Michael Church,
Sidestrand Saint Michael Church NR27 0LY.

Sidestrand Saint Michael Church, Round west tower with octagonal top, 3 bells, spectacular rood, nave chancel and south porch. The church was entirely rebuilt in 1881, on a new site, by the late Sir Samuel Hoare, first baronet, who died in 1915. He might have added a car park. I asked if I could use an opposite houses parking bay, but this is not ideal and must be a pain for the owners. Most of the materials were taken from the old church on the edge of the cliff. There is a memorial window to the late John Gurney Hoare, Esq., died 1875, and to his wife Caroline who died in 1878. There is a beautiful "Golden" reredos of The Last Supper showing Christ and his Apostles, the usual question of is it Mary, present at the table is forced once again as a shaved person with feminine looks sits there, other men, have beards. The organ is built or constructed by Norman & Beard Ltd of London.
