South Burlingham Saint Edmund Church, west tower, south porch, nave and chancel. The north and south doors are both Norman, that to the south attached shafts with carved caps and twisted astragal below it, and chevroned arch. That to the north, has a curious billet sort of ornament on arch. The single framed scissor roof is entirely thatched, with battens for tieing thatch to, though the porch has a plaited underlay. The chancel roof is a plain arch-braced roof with a battlement mould to cornice to match that on pulpit, so probably of the same date. 14th century ring handle on south door. This church has some wonderful treasures, with a pulpit which is probably one of the best in Norfolk. It is 15th century and has eight panels out of sixteen. and remains its original colouring and is inscribed "Inter natos Mulierum  Non Surrexit Major Johanne Baptista" (Among them that are born of woman there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist, " Matthew. XI. II. it is beautifully traceried with crocketted upper panel and has an hour glass stand. it will be interesting to carpenters to note that the top and bottom rails are cut out of one curved piece of wood and not jointed as we should to-day. South Burlingham Saint Edmund Church, Simple square headed screen with  the old battlement mould and cresting and plain diapered base. The benches in nave are interesting with sometimes two grotesques on one bench, a dog following an elephant and castle, a fox with a goose on its back, a serpent with its tail curling down the bench end and little men sitting crosswise in chairs. Most of them perforated and traceried backs. There are faded paintings of Saint Christopher and Martyrdom of Becket. Beckett has been defaced! 13th century font, plain Stuart table and baluster rails and return stalls to chancel on which someone has cut the dates 1607 and 1611.
