It contains several fine monuments to the Hare Family, including a fine altar tomb with effigy to Sir Thomas Hare, died 1693 by sculptor W. Theed of London date 1834. And another to Thomas Hare 1801 by sculptor Mc Daniel. There are memorials to Susanna and Thomas Hare 1760 by scultor Peter Sheemakers. There is a Norman holy water stoup. Mural paintings have been removed. Cautley wrote, Stow Bardolph Holy Trinity Church. west tower, north porch, nave and chancel and north chancel chapel. This church has suffered a severe restoration, and has modern roof and benches. On the north of chancel is the poor 16th century Hare chapel. Plain arched graduated sedilia and piscina and a set of Stuart Arms, probably those of Charles II. Neither mentioned the wax figure of Mistress Sarah Hare, Arthur Mee speaks of it in his book The King's England (Norfolk) he wrote: In an oak case in the Hare Chapel of the church is the wax figure of Mistress Sarah Hare, whose untimely fate might have served as a subject for one of Maria Edgeworth's Moral Tales. We are told that she was sowing on a Sunday and a prick of her needle caused her death! (we have seen a similar story on a stone in Westminster Abbey) she died in 1744. Sarah Hare lies in wax locked in her case, hidden from view. The Hares have been involved with both church and manor for over 400 years, one was a lover of trees, he set lots of cedars in the grounds of what became the Stow Hall Hospital, now raised to the ground. When I was 9, my father was taken there to convalesce, he was previously at both Saint James hospital and Hardwick Isolation Hospital in King's Lynn. Father's stay was not all a happy one, though some of the patients sneaked out to go to the nearby Hare Arms Public House, father could not. I was sneaked into the hospital as hadn't seen him for ages. It really did my schooling no good at the time and a matron found me hiding behind a curtain, needless to say, he was sent to Mundesley, miles away. My family had no car, so no one hardly then visited.
