Tottenhill Saint Botolph's Church.


Tottenhills Saint Botolphs church, a small, church with a small west tower, Norman nave, the one west window, and blocked north doorway, and the south doorway. This has one order of colonnettes, Decorated capitals, zigzag in the arch, and tympanum with a cross surrounded by a rope moulding which continued along the bottom of the tympanum. The Norman style was also in the chancel arch, again with colonnettes and zigzag in the arch. There is hooded moulding with plaques, to remodelling, the east window has intersected tracery, i.e. is of 1300. Tottenhills Saint Botolphs church, near King's Lynn, square west tower, 1 bell, nave, chancel and south porch. The style is mainly Early English with some later insertions. The south door is a fine specimen of Norman work with beautiful tympanum, the only one in Norfolk, this church contained an effigy of Thomas, brother of King Henry IV, but this was unfortunately badly damaged in 1839. On each side of the chancel arch was an altar recessed out of the wall. Some ancient mural colouring has been discovered.
