Walsoken All Saints Church.

Walsoken or Walsoca, the district under particular jurisdiction (soke) by the wall. Old English weall (wall) + socn (soke). Found the church, very nice, no idea where Whyte Lodge, Grimmers Road is and if i set my quest of getting to all churches of Norfolk, this is going to take years. Another one to call back to. no number or postcode. Cautley stated that the tower is 13th century, and has a Norman entrance, complete with three engaged shafts and fine arcaded octagonal buttresses, , upper part and spire being 14th century. The church has a Sanctus Bell on the east side, a Seven Sacrament Font adorns this church too. There is an interesting screen in the south aisle, much mutilated, but 15th century. There are a few old benches too. And a sacristy on the south side of the chancel with an upper room, also a stone Gospel lectern against the east wall of the south chapel and a heart reliquary recess in the north aisle. West tower, south porch, nave north and south aisles, chancel and chancel aisles. The tower is 13th century and has a Norman entrance with three engaged shafts and fine arcaded octagonal buttresses, the upper part and spire being 14th century. The 13th century porch with original gable cross, a Sanctus bell turret in the east wall of nave and a 13th century eastern end with 15th century window in it. The fine 12th century arcades have octagonal and circular piers with boldly moulded semi-circular chevroned arches. Late 12th century arch with banded columns to jambs. The roof is peculiar with hammer-beams and very shallow arch brach supporting cambered tie-beams, the wall posts being carved with canopied figures. Plain arch-braced roof to chancel, and a 16th century arch-braced cambered tie-beam roof to north chancel aisle with angel cornice, wall posts with figures, carved beams and the purlins brattished. The fine seven sacrament font stands on two wide steps and has around the shaft eight named saints.
