West Runton Holy Trinity Church NR27 9QT



West Runton Holy Trinity Church, near Cromer, square west tower, 1 bell, nave with south aisle but no clerestory, chancel and south porch.  The style is Decorated with some Perpendicular windows inserted. Those in the south aisle are curiously alternate, large and small. There is a fine sedilia and piscina in the chancel and another piscina in the south aisle. Several of the internal fittings are modern. There is a good deal of 19th century stained glass. Good late 14th century font with eight attached shafts having tracery between them and traceried bowl. Remains of 13th century vaulting in tower which has a Sanctus bell window. The chancel has good 15th century windows and a 14th century piscina and sedilia of two seats with central shaft and traceried heads. Arms to Hanoverian. Runton or Runetuna meaning: Runi's or Runa's enclosure. Old English Runi/Runa + tun (enclosure, settlement,farm).
