Whittington Christ Church.

Whittington, Christ Church, closed on my visit, I have been here on many occasions, once when it was open, but the floor was being repaired. I was a milkman at Whittington, so know the area and church well.Designed in 1874-1875 by R. M. Phipson. west turret, 1 bell, nave, chancel and west porch. This is a modern church, when Whittington, formerly a hamlet in Northwold, became a separate parish. It is a copy of the late 13th century style. It was built at the expense of the late Mrs Norman, as a memorial to her husband. Organ from St James Harpur Hill, Buxton, to be installed 2000. This church is built from random knapped flint, limestone and brick. It has a plain tile roof in two alternative shades, decorative ridge tiles, stone gables. The nave and chancel are combined and the west porch is flanked by recessed porticus. The windows imitate Decorated style. There is a west bellcote Interior has elaborate 7 bay  roof divided by arch=braced trusses, intermediate scissor trusses. There is a carved screen round the north porticus. Original pews and pulpit. Carved royal arms are visible at the west end. Listed as grade II.
