Woodrising Saint Nicholas Church.

Woodrising Saint Nicholas Church, The church of Saint Nicholas at Woodrising has a small building on the church grounds that took over the role of housing the bells that used to be at Little Fransham. The latter lost its tower and the bells were moved here. Woodrising has the ruin of a tower, covered with ivy on the end. Key holder on site, but not allowed to gain access. Fallen west tower, south porch, nave, south aisle and chancel. The old bell frame from the fallen tower stands in the north west corner of the churchyard and is thatched. There is a curious little traceried circular window at the west end of the south aisle. Modern roofs and arches, simple 14th century font, with traceried bowl and shaft and Jacobean pulpit and back board. There is a set of Commandments with Moses and Aaron, a squint from south aisle, a simple piscina with cusped ogee arch, having blank tracery in head under a square label, and the tomb in Norman, of sanctuary of Sir Robert Southwell. Woodrising Saint Nicholas Church, near Hingham square west tower, in ruins, nave with south aisle but no clerestory, chancel and south porch. This church is in the late Perpendicular style. On the north side of the chancel is a memorial with a full-sized figure of a knight in armour, supposed to represent Sir Robert Southwell. There is also a memorial slab to Sir Francis Crane, who was Ambassador to France in the time of King Charles I. He revived the art of tapesty in this country, establishing a factory at Mortlake, near London. There are several tablets to the Weyland family, also one to The Rev, Dr Sutton, who was rector here in 1600.
